Leveraging AWS to Meet the Surge in Camping Popularity

Recreation.gov was built from the ground up to be cloud native for both agility and scale. In 2019 this approach was pushed to the limit, with traffic swinging from the lowest on record to the highest in only a few months. This talk will break down how the system bent, twisted, and persevered to meet the huge demand in recreation during the pandemic.

Mr. Folkoff is a Principal Engineer at Booz Allen. Currently his main focus is on the Recreation.gov SRE team. He’s spent 10 years working on large enterprise web applications for commercial and government agencies. Mr. Folkoff has been a part of building the new Recreation.gov, from initial architecture design meetings to the production launch in October of 2018.
