Abstract: Google Quantum AI aims to build a useful quantum computer, and to identify impactful, societally beneficial applications for our quantum computers. In this talk, Kate will share more about the team’s roadmap and recent progress, including reaching their second major milestone: the first experimental demonstration that it is possible to scale quantum error correction, using it to improve performance with increasing qubit number.

BioKate Weber leads global public policy for AI and emerging technologies at Google, including AI and quantum computing. Her career has focused on the intersection of scientific research and policy. Prior to Google, she led a team at the US Department of State covering bilateral and multilateral engagement on chemicals management, air quality, and waste management, where she was also an American Association for the Advancement of Science S&T policy fellow. She holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge where she was a Marshall Scholar, and a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Richmond.
