History of GITEC
The Government Information Technology Executive Council (GITEC) was originally established in response to a June 28th, 1966, White House memorandum, creating a forum for Senior Level Government and Industry Executives to share IT ideas, challenges, and successes.
On May 31, 2018, GITEC merged with ATARC following a decisive vote by government stakeholders. This merger brought together two non-profits with a shared vision of driving innovation in government technology.
Today, ATARC honors GITEC’s enduring legacy of leadership in federal IT. As part of this, our GITEC Board continues to play a vital role in guiding the organization’s efforts to address emerging technology challenges.
The GITEC Board is composed of experienced government and industry leaders dedicated to advancing IT innovation within the public sector. They provide strategic guidance, ensuring that ATARC continues to address the most pressing technology challenges faced by federal agencies, while fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the government IT community.
The annual GITEC Summit, hosted by ATARC, serves as a key event where thought leaders, innovators, and decision-makers collaborate on the future of government technology. This event exemplifies our mission to foster cross-sector collaboration and ensure that the federal IT community remains at the forefront of technological advancement.
